Our Spotlight Author for June 2005

Dear Readers:

Wow! First of all, let me thank you for coming to hang out here with me! I have to say, the gals at Romance Reader At Heart have just done a fabulous job with the place. And the finger sandwiches? To die for. So sit down in the comfy chairs, relax with a bit of tea (how great is that china?) and relax.

I have to say, I'm so glad you're here. I've been writing for years but never thought to pursue it because, well, who gets published, right? But a couple of years ago I quit the working world to stay home with my kids and there are only so many times you can pick up the same 64 crayons before you lose your mind, so I started to focus on my writing. I was a theater reviewer for a while, and did some freelance marketing consulting, but mostly I just loved to write. I actually wrote the rough draft of my first book, TIME OFF FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR, in 25 days as part of the National Novel Writing Month (http://www.nanowrimo.org) challenge, and soon after decided I'd dedicate myself to getting sold. I was lucky; I got an agent pretty quickly, who then got me a two-book deal with Warner, and life since then has pretty much been a whirlwind. I went to New York City to meet my agent and editor and attend my first Romance Writers of America national conference. Then I moved from Anchorage, Alaska to Syracuse, New York with my husband, cat and two young daughters in tow. Then I wrote my first romance, MAYBE BABY - a romantic comedy romp involving first loves, second chances and a rare, smelly, flightless parrot. And now, I'm here!

Wow. Those finger sandwiches are amazing, aren't they? Have some more. Internet food has no calories. Pretty cool, huh?

So please hang out for a while and check out the Romance Reader at Heart site, and if you have time, I'd love to see you over at my online hangouts - my website (http://www.lanidianerich.com/) and at Literary Chicks, the blog I host with fellow authors and cool chicks Alesia Holliday and Michelle Cunnah (http://www.literarychicks.com/.) It's been so great to meet you and I'm so flattered that you'd spend this time with me. I hope to see you around, and feel free to drop me a line at lani@lanidianerich.com if you're so inclined!
